Five years. An archive of history, an evolutionist history. Our Editors and Producers navigate the pages of AVESSA to find their Top Editorials (in no particular order) that have been most touching – the ones that sparked conversation, challenged perceptions, and redefined the very essence of fashion.

Feminism & Fashion

I love conceptual editorials because they look simple, but they are a challenge. I think that many people don’t pay enough attention to these types of editorials. Those who know about this trade will acknowledge that it is extremely hard to pull off a good conceptual editorial. So, to stay true to myself, I will vote for Feminism and Fashion from The Strength Within issue. It is simple, beautiful, delicate, and effective. And the message is strong. Congratulations to the team led by our Producer, Karoline Delgobbo.

Beyond Binary is in our Top 10 Editorials list, featuring RLM02

As a creative director and stylist, this editorial really speaks to me. The use of black in the outfits feels bold and simple, while the industrial location creates such a raw and edgy atmosphere. The styling is clean yet powerful, and the angles in the photography bring everything together so beautifully. The gas station’s vintage signs and the reflection of water on the floor give off a retro feel. It feels very cinematic. It’s the kind of work that inspires me.

Lost Dreams

Did I just take crazy pills? Did a cosmic-level tragedy, similar to the killing fields, just strike? Did I just leave the house with underpants and soiled trousers? No. Trump, a con artist since the 1970s, a narcissist, and a cunning marketer, just won the presidency. Was there a shock? Did the liberal elites wet themselves? Absolutely not!! This was imminently predictable. And if you, dear reader, had been paying attention? AVESSA predicted it with aplomb and, okay, perhaps a tad bit of loftiness.

AVESSA prides itself on an uncompromising view of fashion and the world that imposes itself on what we wear and what we buy. Lost Dreams comprehensively warned that life is not fraught-less for the thoughtless. There are 100 million people yearning for their dreams lost to the rushing advancement of the world and cultural shifts that rock even the willing.

White working-class people have been spit upon and manipulated for centuries since the inception of the United States. And the rest of us, educated, white, black, brown, purple, and polka-dotted, sneered and thought that it was our time. We thought the white working class didn’t matter and they should have the decency to step aside. But it is supremely unfair for so many people to be shoved with arrogance back and told to shut up.

We are reaping the rewards of society’s arrogance and disinterest in helping all of us. All of us. John Dickerson wrote the phrase “United we stand, divided we fall” in 1768. In 2024, we elected someone who would have appalled the saint-like Abraham Lincoln as well as the selfless George Washington.

AVESSA pointed out the economic and societal dangers we played within the last 8 years. This article is vital to understand the rise of Trump and even highlighted Vance as a danger. It is imperative to read this piece again and finally… Finally, pay attention. Punishing any of our society is wrong.

We need to be united and help each other. And forgive. Forgive past mistakes no matter how deeply the insults are felt. We are running into uncharted territory. Global war? Economic disaster? Civil unrest? Or just the stock market defying gravity as businesses are let loss to unrelenting capitalism. For billionaires to dictate whether we work or starve? This article is foundational for peering into the unknown and perhaps a guide to change our behavior and, as stated before, to forgive.

The images were captured by our Fashion Photographer and Editor-in-Chief, Flávio Iryoda, featuring model Alleya Seaver. “I never grow tired of shooting with Alleya; she is truly one of my muses and inspirations,” Flávio shared.

Love Lies Bleeding

Love Lies Bleeding is in our Top 10 Editorials list, featuring Barzaga

Personally, I think it is very hard to choose only one because I have many favorites. As an artist, I look at the pages color-wise and their layout, and then I dive into the read. I think a lot of people do the same: they start from the cover and then look inside the magazine.  So my pick is Love Lies Bleeding, featuring Barzaga. I love the fashion, the photography, and the creative writing blend really well together.

The loss of a loved one is a profound and harrowing experience, often plunging us into despair, self-doubt, and emotional turmoil. Yet, recovery is possible, as our Senior Editor, Alfonso de Hoyos-Acosta, crafted this article. While the pain of loss can uncover insecurities and lead to self-destructive behaviors, it also offers a path to reflection and growth. True healing begins when we confront the “monsters” within, learning to let go of what was lost while embracing resilience and self-compassion. The journey is not about forgetting but transforming despair into strength, rediscovering purpose, and, ultimately, finding a way to love and live again.

The Dance of Eternity

The Dance of Eternity became simply an explosion of sensuality and passion. Something secret and essential, capturing a spirit that enveloped me with such natural and warm colors and sounds, as if absorbing everything that is talked about in all issues of AVESSA. Produced by Natasha Tabunova in the heart of Madrid featuring Alineo Studio, the editorial erases the boundaries between fashion, culture, and art. The editorial communicates with the reader through the language of the body, feelings, conscious and unconscious, turning on emotional intelligence to the maximum.

The Future is Genderless

The Future is Genderless is in our Top 10 Editorials list, featuring Dope Tavio

“The Future is Genderless” showcases outstanding fashion from Dope Tavio. It is visually striking, very contemporary, and incredibly strong. The story and the message are both still relevant. The writing is also excellent (my first article for AVESSA ❤). The concept is very powerful and is properly communicated.

Fashion's Blueprint for the Future

Fashion’s Blueprint for the Future was acknowledged by many of our Board Members as a true milestone not only in our journey but in the history of fashion in Miami. Bringing together five educators from the main fashion education entities (that could be considered competitors) on the same day and time was considered almost an impossible task.

“The atmosphere of enthusiasm and camaraderie struck me, and it gave me the fuel necessary to create beautiful images. I really don’t know how Nestor Camacho, our Producer for this editorial, was able to coordinate all the moving parts, from our guests to location, wardrobe, accessories, styling, models, etc. We had a total of 17 professionals on set,” says Flávio Iryoda, Editor-in-Chief. As per our Chief Content Officer, Mena Lombard, “it is visually striking and original. Something very hard to achieve nowadays. It’s a moment we will always remember.”

Faith

Faith is in our Top 10 Editorials list, featuring TA Couture

We take great pride in our work at AVESSA. But sometimes, it feels like the stars align, the universe converges, and a touch of magic happens—creating moments that become history. The specific moment was the production of “Faith,” an editorial by Natasha Tabunuva featuring the talented fashion designer Tammy Apostol.

The Ukrainian war began at the end of February, and we swiftly responded on March 10th by creating our symbol of peace and hope through fashion. This project also marked the debut of our Senior Editor and dear friend, Alfonso de Hoyos-Acosta.

The editorial was beautifully captured by the gifted model Paulína Grebeciova, who has been featured on two other covers: our first and fifth celebratory editions. I refer to her as the “last survivor” of my eccentric and adventurous editorial ideas.

Estela Clares

The interview with Estela Clares is in our Top 10 Editorials list

Estela Clares was the editorial that took me into a state of almost meditation and immersed me in deep memories that were hidden somewhere very far away in my memory and made me simply explode with some fantasy images that remind me of my native traditional Ukrainian embroidery, which is so cherished and passed down from generation to generation, infusing a unique sense of tradition, folk wisdom and feelings that are difficult to describe in words.
