We are officially adults. We wake up early, go to work, take on responsibilities, and repeat the same routines day after day. Somewhere along the way, adulthood can become repetitive and very predictable. That’s why sometimes, just sometimes, I find myself missing the freedom of being a kid, when imagination had no limits and growing up felt like a distant possibility.
Founded in Barcelona in 2012 by multidisciplinary artist David Méndez Alonso, the label was born from a desire to challenge fashion’s repetitiveness and celebrate those who refuse to conform. Its philosophy, “Adults who haven’t grown up”, is not about dressing childishly. It’s about refusing to abandon curiosity, eccentricity, and playfulness. Through its signature Preppy-Punk aesthetic, we see traditional tailoring meeting exaggerated graphics, nostalgic references, and unconventional silhouettes.
Innocence, desire and a Parisian club
For spring-summer 2027, presented at 080 Barcelona Fashion, Outsiders Division takes its imaginary characters into a new chapter with Groomed and Horny: Adolescence.
While previous collections explored childhood nostalgia, this season introduces the awkward, exciting, and sometimes overwhelming discovery of attraction, sexuality, and identity that occurs during our teenage years. Inspired by Méndez Alonso’s visit to a Parisian club where guests remove their outer clothing, the collection explores the tension between dressing and undressing, innocence and desire.
Dressing, undressing, repeat
The contradiction appeared throughout the runway. A seemingly traditional tailored ensemble, complete with shirt, trousers, and bow tie, revealed lingerie-inspired construction from behind. Corseted and neat pieces imitated naked torsos, while dresses with bows and exaggerated proportions brought drama to youthful silhouettes. Cable-knit sweaters, polo shirts, and pleated skirts recall school wardrobes, now remade through a more provocative lens.
What makes this collection compelling is how naturally it extends the brand’s philosophy. Its characters are growing up, yet they have not lost the imagination that defines them.
Adulthood rarely gives us permission to revisit the younger version of ourselves, the curious, naive dreamers who believed anything was possible. Outsiders Division SS27 reminds us that perhaps growing up was never supposed to mean leaving them behind.
