Lola Casademunt Brings Color Back to the City

With her "City Oasis" collection, Lola Casademunt reimagined city dressing for the cosmopolitan woman, trading corporate grey for bold color and playful silhouettes. Standouts included a sheer burgundy crochet dress under a leather blazer, a cropped bronze suit, and a series of striking gowns in vivid turquoise, pink, and green. The show closed on a high-low striped dress, proof that Madrid's business center still has room for a little color.

For those of us who frequent or inhabit bustling, hectic metropolitan landscapes, there can often be a dearth of vibrancy. Now, that doesn’t mean that there is ever an absence of activity, as there is certainly no shortage of that. Rather, in these large cities that also function as business centers, grey corporate wardrobes, glass skyscrapers, and “hustle culture” can, at times, come to feel like the dominant forces.

However, this season, Lola Casademunt brought a new energy to the heart of Madrid. More specifically, with her latest collection, dubbed “City Oasis”, she created an altogether more vibrant and expressive wardrobe for the cosmopolitan woman. Rife with retina-searing colors, dynamic prints, and playful silhouettes, it was a fabulous and light-hearted exploration of how truly fun city dressing could be.

Workwear Meets Vacation

From the outset, the show was an intriguing blend of workwear and vacation styles. For instance, a burgundy leather blazer was layered over a long dress in the same shade, constructed out of a loose crochet, which made it almost entirely sheer.

Soon after, a bronze suit emerged, which consisted of an oversized blazer and a long pair of shorts. The cropped construction was a whimsical twist on the traditional suit, reinforcing the spirited tone of the show.

Perhaps most striking, however, was the show’s selection of dresses. One such piece saw a halterneck maxi dress emblazoned with a vivid turquoise, pink, yellow, and green bird and landscape print. The dress’ voluminous shape billowed down the runway, bringing the scene in the print to life and imbuing it with real movement.

Following this, an intriguing burgundy and hot pink striped gown came down the runway. With a high collar, a plunging neckline, and cape-style sleeves, it was a striking garment that added a dash of sophistication to the colorful canon of looks.

Crystals, Florals, and a Final Splash of Color

There were also a few statement-making dresses in a shorter cut, in a nod to the city woman’s weekend wardrobe. One peridot green iteration saw long sleeves and a plunging neckline dotted with large pink crystals. Another had oversized three-dimensional blue, green, and brown flowers clustered on the front, while the back was constructed of a wide aqua and burgundy-striped silk panel.

The show concluded with a simple, yet playful strapless high-low dress, featuring the same aqua and burgundy-striped fabric. Like many of the looks that came before it, it was a blend of dynamism and refinement that seemed to perfectly round-out the collection.

Lola Casademunt’s “City Oasis” proved to be just that: a vibrant and lovely reprieve from the typical bustle of city life. Further, it demonstrated that, though these business centers may be full of serious people doing very serious work, there is still more than enough space for a little lightheartedness and, certainly, a little more color.
