Ulises Merida collaborated with Renfe, Spain’s national passenger railway company, for his latest Spring/Summer 2024 collection. Ulises’s style has been consistently urban and elegant. His aesthetic combines luxurious fabrics and colorful hues with a soothing, cool chic that is exciting. Therefore, he has often described his customer as “A fearless and timeless woman of the 21st century.” In that vein, the crowd in Madrid eagerly awaited Ulises’s new collection.
Ulises Merida x Renfe
For the last MBFWMadrid in 2022, Ulises Merida appropriately won the prestigious L’Oréal award for best collection. Then, soon after, he was selected to create the new uniforms for Renfe. This collaboration provided a wonderful inspirational bedrock for his new runway presentation. Ulises unveiled his gorgeous interpretation of the new uniforms intertwined with his outfits from his distinctive new collection. One of the most exciting parts of this runway show was blending the Renfe corporate hues with Ulises’s always vibrant, elegant eye.
Ulises stated, “Everything takes place on a platform where Renfe staff and travelers mix; some with the corporate colors, the others in strong tones such as oranges and dry greens and turquoise that mix with dark garments in navy blue or black.” This juxtaposition allowed Ulises to highlight his fabrics and textures with wool, crepe, technical textiles, and lace. These colors and materials were essential to Ulises’s fluid, graceful style. Ulises is well known for using lovely crisp white shirts in his collections. And one must admire how he paired his ubiquitous shirts with innovative capes and coats. Of particular note were two versions of a stunning cape presented separately in both navy blue and green.
Fashion and Travel
His design was a daring combination of a modern military uniform that also gave reference to early sixties elegance. Another outfit layered a metallic blue leather skirt and blouse that shone with an almost wet look and a stunning green vest in asymmetrical angles. For the staging, the designer recreated an imaginary train station where one can imagine models entering their fashionable travel. Ulises was innovative in his deliberate layering of garments with oversized collars, asymmetric bows, and lovely footwear. All of which seemed practical and beautiful.
Ulises and Renfe take you to parts unknown
In conclusion, the collection treated us to Ulises’s creative ideas for the Renfe uniforms. Uniforms that will be part of the workers’ wardrobe and his new collection’s looks in a seamless, gorgeous combination. Ulises created something special with fabrics and elegance that we usually associate with evening wear. Still, in this case, Ulises transformed these textiles into clothes we would excitedly wear as we board the trains to travel to parts unknown.
