Fall Make-up
Even though it has been at least a couple of decades since I learned the start dates of each season at school, there’s something in me that, as soon as the calendar hits the first of September, feels an extreme urge to light candles and pretend the ceiling lights in my apartment don’t exist. I even take out all the blankets and duvets (only to have them get in the way until almost mid-October, unfortunately).
It’s all soft lighting and cozymaxxing from the first week of September onwards. Now, after what felt like an eight-week-long September, I can finally start enjoying all those details I planned for this weather. One of them is make-up.
I’m pretty loyal to my make-up bag, but when a new season starts, there’s always a slight rotation, especially when it comes to color.
Blush
Despite my all time obsession with coral blushes, fall is all about exploring every shade of brown, and even burgundy tones. Mixing cream and powder is a foolproof technique; we all know that, but let’s be real: powder and summer just don’t get along. That’s how it is. Fall is when they finally join forces and conquer.
Lip Pencils
I sometimes find myself in the serious situation of not having my two year old Charlotte Tilbury Pillowtalk pencil in my bag, that, as you can imagine, it’s already in its last days. For this fall I’ve decided to explore new paths. I’m opening myself up to new tones, and the idea of novelty is exciting enough so I don’t feel bad about being disloyal to my Pillowtalk. Mauve and darker nudes are on the list.
Bronzing Drops
As much as I hate saying this, I can see my extremely slight tan fading a little more each day. Honestly, why would I put up with a reminder that I’m no longer on a remote island beach when I can just add a couple of bronzing drops to my routine? I’m a big fan of mixing them with moisturizer, right before SPF and after skincare. The final look is so seamless you won’t even remember that the color isn’t actually yours…
Bronzing powder
Another hard topic. The fact is that, no matter how many bronzing drops I add, I have to switch to a lighter bronzing powder as soon as summer leaves for good. It’s not easy to admit, but the truth is that make-up looks so much more natural when the bronzer actually matches your skin tone. The earlier you accept that, the better.
Bobbi Brown will always be a favorite. Buildable, soft as butter, and the safest option for long days when you need everything to stay in place no matter what.
Perfume
Some might argue that perfume doesn’t belong in a make-up bag, but trust me, it sure does in mine. I won’t leave my house without blush, and I won’t leave without perfume either. It’s sad enough to say goodbye to my Sol de Janeiro 62 (until another ray of sun hits me, no matter what month), but it’s time for new and deeper fragrances, and that, let me say, is extremely exciting for me. Now I have to find the one that is exactly what I envision for my aura (and doesn’t give me a migraine… which matters too).
Jo Malone, Diptyque, and Byredo are always a safe choice for me.
