Pedro del Hierro’s new collection, El Pellizco, debuted on the first day of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. It draws inspiration from the powerful emotions of flamenco, particularly the concept of pellizco. This term describes an electrifying feeling that can’t be easily explained, but can be deeply felt by those who experience it. The collection reflects this sensation—one that runs through your body, much like the effect of music, dance, or raw talent.

The show created a unique atmosphere, combining high society style with street fashion. It played with contrasts in every way: masculine versus feminine, elegant versus casual, bold versus subtle. Men’s tailoring appeared in women’s outfits, like dinner jackets paired with straight or flared trousers. The designs deconstructed traditional gender lines, blending both masculine and feminine elements. The collection also featured playful details, such as shirts made from transparent wool and collar-and-tie exchanges with stripes and polka dots.

The colors focused on black, burgundy, and green, giving the collection a moody, intense feel. The fabrics used in the collection included wool, silk, and velvet, each adding texture to the designs. Metallic materials brought an extra shine and light to the pieces. Footwear, including Chelsea boots and Cuban heels, recalled the iconic styles of Yves Saint Laurent in the 1970s and flamenco legends like Camarón de la Isla.

Flamenco and Parisian Influences

The collection carried a subtle Parisian touch, seamlessly merging international influences with Spanish and flamenco culture. The visual contrasts, the layers, and the mix of different styles and eras made for a dynamic and bold statement.

The energy in the room soared as a live flamenco group performed and danced throughout the runway show. Their music and dance brought the collection to life, adding to the excitement and creating a truly immersive experience. The audience responded with a huge round of applause, showing their appreciation for the incredible performance.
