Jhoan Sebastian Grey returns to Miami Fashion Week with “Echoes of Silence,” a collection that pays tribute to his own memory, to everything he dreamed he could do and never produced, until now.
From a Ballet Stage in Cali…
Born in Cali, Colombia, Sebastian showed an obvious inclination toward the arts and beauty when, at the early age of 8, moved by the fascination typical of children, he asked his parents, Amparo and Antonio José, to enroll him at the Colombian Ballet Institute, where he eventually graduated after 8 years of dedication.
As might be expected, a young Sebastian, freshly graduated in ballet and with an ever more passionate pull toward arts and beauty, continued his education in Cali as a fashion designer. It was simply a matter of time before the flame that lit the chest of that very small Sebastian would illuminate his path into adolescence, and therefore adulthood. And so, once again, he graduated and quickly found his definitive professional training, working with designers such as Lina Cantillo and Andrés Otalora, both Colombian designers.

His Power Move
Once his professional training had not only been excellent but was pointing toward very bright horizons, Sebastian made the typical move of someone who, without hesitating too much, puts his dream before everything he knew before. His move to study fashion in Miami triggered the career we know today.
But of course, to speak about Sebastian’s trajectory without speaking about Project Runway would be to avoid, in all likelihood, his greatest professional joy. Seven years ago today, under the voice of Karlie Kloss, before the eyes of millions of viewers, and in tears, Sebastian was proclaimed the winner of season 17 of Project Runway.
During the show, Sebastian paid tribute on multiple occasions to Colombian craftsmanship, to native artisanship and the vast richness of its textiles and techniques, everything that fast fashion devours and annihilates.
A Collection Built From Memory
Today, at Miami Fashion Week, we have the immense pleasure of seeing a Sebastian who is, if anything, even more mature and professionally experienced, and as faithful as ever to his inner flame, his roots and his ambitions. In a collection made up of everything his memory once imagined, we have seen designs in white, brown and black, and fabrics such as cotton, silk and, of course, leather. Many pieces work within the codes of a trench coat, along with dresses with cut outs and gathering that adapt to the model’s body with an apparent lightness and ease worthy of deep admiration.
Sebastian remains a reference point in womenswear, both in Latin America and in the United States, two settings that have been major participants and protagonists in his professional and personal life.
