Javier Simorra grew up admiring the work of his father, a respected Barcelona-based couturier devoted to opera. In the late 1970s, no longer a child, Javier set out to shape his own vision of fashion, one capable of bringing together the elegance, gesture, and the level of detail in craftsmanship he learned at home with a more contemporary approach aligned with the prêt-à-porter of the time.
The Ancient Language of Fabric
Today, as with every season, Simorra brings together its admirers at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, presenting a universe that, following its tradition, uses fabric and raw material as the guiding thread behind every element, every piece, and every idea.
Texere, from the Latin “to weave”, is the name given to the brand’s new proposal, a body of work that explores the conceptualisation of fabric as language, starting from the premise that, in the past, writing was done through weaving. To spin is to tell: to count threads, to mark time, to tell stories. Long before the written word existed, threads were already organising the world.
By positioning themselves as “textiletellers,” the brand honors the ancestral connection between generations and the craft of manual expression, where threads serve as pencils and fabric as paper. This avant-garde collection integrates messages into garments using diverse techniques, most notably a custom-designed binary code system that bridges the gap between traditional textile legacy and the origins of industrial production.
They connected materials, transmitted knowledge, and shaped shared narratives. The brand draws on this idea to create something new, working from the sincerity of those who take history and transform it into an act of appreciation and care. Draping, transparency, quilted fabrics, and a number of prints distinctive to the brand allow us, season after season, to instantly recognise Simorra’s identity, its way of being and of existing.
The collection’s colour palette uses deep red, dark brown, raw neutrals, navy, an undefined pink, cloudy blue, dark green, and black as tools to convey its message with clarity.
