Mexico City is the capital of and largest city in Mexico, and the most populous city in North America. The square was built on the site which was the political, cultural and religious center of the ancient city of Tenochtitlan, the largest Mexican (Aztec) civilization in the Americas.

There is wonderful art to observe scattered throughout the city, but many of the most prominent works are in the National Palace, the Museum of the Palace of Fine Arts, the Dolores Olmedo Museum (also home to one of the most beautiful gardens in the city), the Diego Rivera Anahuacalli Museum and Museo Casa Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo. The Museum of Modern Art also displays important works by Mexican artists, as does the National Museum of Art.The Museum of Folk Art, as the name suggests, is dedicated entirely to folk art created by the people of Mexico.
Although the museums above are dedicated predominantly to great Mexican artists, they also host works by other renowned artistic figures from around the world. Other museums that offer wonderful collections include the Soumaya Museum and the Tamayo and Jumex museums. The Soumaya contains an excellent collection of the work of the impressionists and is home to one of the largest Rodin exhibitions in the world., The Tamayo and Jumex are dedicated entirely to contemporary art.
Walk to Avenida Paseo de La Reforma between Alameda Central and Bosque Chapultepec
This is one of the most beautiful locations in all of Mexico City. Paseo de La Reforma Avenue connects the Historic Center to the Chapultepec Forest, one of the largest urban parks in the world. The route, stretching 7 kilometers, is completely wooded with wide sidewalks. Along the way you’ll pass many shops and restaurants, beautiful modern buildings, and museums . The center of the avenue is marked by several monuments, the most symbolic being the large golden angel which is the Monument to La Independencia.
