Baro Lucas: 110 Decibels

Experience Baro Lucas "110 decibels," an ode to acoustic calm and introspection inspired by the legendary deaf flamenco dancer Antoñita La Singla. She famously learned to dance without hearing the music, relying instead on the visual tempo of clapping hands and strumming guitars.

In 2011, a young designer with a highly promising path took the step of giving physical, tangible form to his dream, his imagination, his desire. Thus, Baro Lucas was born, founded by Álvaro Lucas Santos, a brand that today feels less emerging and a bit more “traditional” every day, with even an aspirational aura that resonates across all generations throughout the country.

The Rhythm of Silence

Today, at MBFW, we encountered 110 decibels, a collection born from introspection, from the sense of acoustic calm that Baro Lucas experiences while working. An ode to stillness, to peace, and to everything surrounding the uniquely personal way in which each designer works, to that intimate moment, a moment shared between two: himself and the design that slowly emerges from the paper.

The inspiration behind this collection is, if I may say so, somewhat more special than usual. It is a woman, her story. She is Antoñita La Singla (Barcelona, 1948), considered one of the greatest flamenco dancers in history, who also happens to be deaf. “I found the parallel between La Singla and myself deeply moving, and I was fascinated by imagining how she was able to interpret sound through dance.

Antoñita kept rhythm by watching the clapping and the guitar’s tempo. She learned to dance without hearing the music,” says Baro Lucas. And yes, there is something in this inspiration that stirs slightly different emotions in me than usual and, on a personal level, it deeply reminds me of the beauty of fashion, of art, something that is always worth remembering.

A breath, the beating of a heart, a woman begins to move across the runway. She wears an evening dress crafted in a fabric that resonates as she walks. This is how the experience begins, a space filled with love, admiration, and creativity. A collection in which each piece gains volume through every fold, texture, and color, as a metaphor for emotion and expression, as a dialogue between noise and silence, between intensity and subtlety, creating a visual narrative that connects both ends of the sonic spectrum.

The final touch lies in absence, the absence of everything that is not intrinsic to the creative process. Sound seeks to be felt, not only heard. Vibration aims to pass through the body, becoming rhythm, texture, and movement, and the color palette moves between cherry red, deep burgundy, dark grey, and black, alongside the subtlety of dusty pink, beige, and ivory.
