A Quiet Hope of Resistance

If you follow a little bit of news, you would agree that a lot has happened this year already. While I could see many elements in the past screaming a red flag, somehow I could not imagine we would get to this level in the US and many parts of the world.

Look at me, a natural skeptic, but still hoping for a bright future in these confusing times. Perhaps I need therapy – or join Alfonso for a few bottles of Bourbon. I need to keep this Editor’s letter short, but I would require pages and pages to list everything that bothers me and goes against my core values.

At AVESSA, we always try to make each and every edition timeless and away from trends, but this time we could not just let go. In a world where data and facts are constantly manipulated, basic science is contested, history is erased, religion is used as a justification – repeated lies turn a new reality. The firehose of falsehood feeds the collective effervescence. Even with all the exclusion, demagogy, contradictions, and aggressions seen, what bothers me the most are those who are still excited and continue to support this alternative reality that I highly disagree with.

I am refusing, I am resisting.
